Part time bookseller
Job Description
Seeking a part-time bookseller to join our growing team. Successful applicants will read through the full job description and include a resume and shelf talkers in their application.
We are a values based bookshop. Please review our mission, vision, and values.
One year of bookselling experience is preferred. Without bookselling experience, we require personal passion and knowledge of books. You don’t need to know all genres/authors, but we expect some working knowledge of the books and authors you enjoy.
A Spoke & Word Bookseller will:

Support our community’s literacy and overall love of reading by sharing expert knowledge with customers and the store team.

Contribute to the tone, style, and design of the bookstore environment and bookselling
-
efforts to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for the community.

Act as the point person for pop-up/vendor opportunities and ensure books and
-
materials are ready for those staffing each pop-up.

Work directly with the management to curate book selections, curate sidelines (gift and
-
other non-book items), and develop events to support literacy and authors.

Report to the Bookshop Owners.
Duties include:

Customer service
-
Sales
-
Handselling
-
Shelving
-
Assisting with in house and out of house author readings

Processing special orders
-
Writing and posting reviews
-
Creating content about events
-
Posting events listings on website and social media

Receiving
-
Returns
Requirements:
-
Must be able to work nights and weekends
-
Must love people
-
Must love books
-
Must be able to lift boxes over 40 pounds regularly
-
Must be able to alphabetize and count back change
-
Comfort with technology is a must as is ownership of a working smartphone
-
Must be comfortable with appearance in social media photos and videos
-
Must have access to reliable transportation
-
Must be available to work between the Friday after Thanksgiving to January 4th . This is our busiest time of year and we are unable to accommodate time off during this time period.

Please be aware that the entire staff shares responsibility for general cleaning of the store, including, but not limited to dusting, public and staff restroom maintenance, vacuuming, and mopping.
Applicants with bookshop, publishing, retail, or restaurant experience strongly preferred
Wages start at $17.00/hour, more based on experience.

Scheduling:
We anticipate scheduling this part time position 8-20 hours/week. These hours may vary
significantly based on seasonal changes in demand.
Our current scheduling needs are Sundays, Tuesday, and Thursdays, but we will also need
support outside of these days of the week as well.

interviews the week of 11/13-11/17
